Record Highs For Dow Jones And S&P 500

The Dow Jones industrial average closed at a record high Tuesday, a day after the S&P 500 index did the same. The gains were led by energy, materials and finance companies.

The Dow closed at 18,347.26, up 120 points. The S&P 500 closed at 2,152.14, up about 15 points from Monday's record close.

"A stronger-than-expected second-quarter report from Alcoa—viewed as the unofficial launch of corporate-earnings season—also engendered optimism on Wall Street, as investors continued to bask in the glow of Friday’s solid nonfarm payrolls report," said MarketWatch.
