The Dow rose 0.23 percent to 17,971.89, while the NASDAQ composite index climbed 0.63 percent to 4,872.95. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.30 percent to 2,105.12.
The worst performing industries in the market today are:
- Movie Production, Theaters: This industry slipped 1.2 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. (USA) (NYSE: LGF), which fell 6.3 percent. KeyBanc maintained an Overweight rating on Lions Gate Entertainment, while lowering the price target from $27 to $24.
- Regional - Southwest Banks: This industry declined 0.9 percent by 11:00 am with Heartland Financial USA Inc (NASDAQ: HTLF) moving down 1.5 percent. Heartland Financial shares have declined 5.36 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 1.45 percent in the same period.
- Long Distance Carriers: This industry fell 0.8 percent by 11:00 am ET. Elephant Talk Communications Corp (NYSE: ETAK) shares dropped 1.3 percent in today's trading.
