Remember back in the day when Apple Inc. AAPL just sold computers and not tablets, music players or smartphones?
Today it may seem that Apple is neglecting its customer base who wants to dish out good money for a laptop or desktop, at least according to Quartz.
Quartz noted Apple hasn't updated its MacBook Pro or the MacBook Air in over a year. Meanwhile, the company's line of desktop computers hasn't been updated or even mentioned during keynoted addresses in years.
However, sales of Apple-branded computers are not doing as poorly as most of its peers. During the first quarter, Lenovo Group Limited (ADR) LNVGY shipped 8.5 percent fewer computers than it did a year ago. HP Inc HPQ shipped 10.8 percent fewer computers and Asus (Asustek Computer, Inc. AKCPF) shipped 8.3 percent fewer devices.
On the other hand, shipment of Apple computer fell just 2.1 percent year-over-year.
Wait A Bit Longer Before Buying A New Computer
Quartz stated that Apple reportedly began pulling its older MacBook Pro stock from several retail locations ahead of a rumored new model that will be thinner, more powerful, have a sharper screen resolution and have more than just one port.
Quartz added that other rumors are speculating Apple will host an event in July that will be completely Mac-focused. As such, consumers looking for a good deal could likely scoop up an outgoing model or buy a new top of the line device in the coming months.
