The NFL's official Twitter Inc TWTR account -- @NFL -- appeared to be hacked earlier Tuesday. A series of tweets quickly made the rounds before being deleted within a few minutes. The league confirmed to CNBC its Twitter account was hacked.

Goodell became NFL Commissioner in September 2006. He has presided over arguably the league's most dominant period in terms of revenue and popularity. However, he's also been criticized in many other areas, most famously his and the league's response to its concussion problems.
