8 Mergers You Might Have Missed On Tuesday
  • Jazz Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: JAZZ) announced it's acquiring Celator Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: CPXX) for $1.5 billion. Celator's Vyxeos, a drug that battles leukemia, is a great expansion of Jazz's drug portfolio and international reach.
  • Great Plains Energy (NYSE: GXP) is buying rival Westar Energy (NYSE: WR) for $8.6 billion. The combination of the two companies creates the largest power provider in the Kansas and Missouri region with more than 1.5 million customers.
  • ContraVir (NASDAQ: CTRV) agreed to a merger with Ciclofilin for aggregate cash of $17 million and 10 percent of ContraVir's issues and outstanding common stocks. CTRV will expand its Hepatitis B portfolio with Ciclofilin's CPI-431-32.
  • Rose Rock Midstream (NYSE: RRMS) has entered into an agreement with SemGroup Corporation (NYSE: SEMG). SemGroup will buy all of the outstanding common units of RRMS in a stock for unit transaction.
  • SANW S&W Seed Company has announced the acquisition of SV Genetics a company based in Qeensland, Australia for 1$ million in cash and $1 million in S&W common stock to be paid at closing.
  • SciQuest Inc. (NASDAQ: SQI) has entered into an agreement with Accel-KKR to be taken private for a deal valued at $509 million.
  • Electro Rent Corporation (NASDAQ: ELRC) and Platinum Equity announced a deal valued at $323.4 million. Platinum Equity is a private equity firm with over $6 billion in assets under management.
