AMC Expands 'Talking' Universe With 'Preacher'

Analysts should file this story as "something they should have seen coming."

AMC Networks Inc AMCX's anticipated summer premiere "Preacher" will get the after-show treatment as revealed by the network on Monday. "Talking Preacher," based on the new series adapted by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, will bow Sunday, May 29, following an encore of the show's premiere, which actually launches a week prior following the "Fear The Walking Dead" mid-season finale on Sunday, May 22.

Inspired by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's comic book franchise, "Preacher" revolves around a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that gives unusual powers. It's a dark supernatural comedic drama that has been in development for a while. Series star Dominic Cooper will join Rogen, Goldberg and co-executive producer Sam Catlin for the first episode. Chris Hardwick will again assume hosting duties.

AMC, which helped launch the post-show movement with "Talking Dead," has expanded the model out to other successful series including "Breaking Bad," "Better Call Saul" and "Fear." "Talking Preacher" will also air following the show's first season finale.

The David Schwimmer/Jim Sturgess scripted restaurant drama "Feed The Beast" will follow "Preacher" starting Sunday, June 5.
