Sony's Stock Recovers Morning Losses, Co. Confirms Suspension In Certain Operations Following Earthquakes

Shares of Sony Corp (ADR) SNE opened for trading on Monday at $25.52 and hit an intra-day low of $25.45 shortly after the opening bell. However, the stock recovered a lot of its losses within 30 minutes and was last seen trading at $26.31, down 1.3 percent on the day.

Investors and traders were likely reacting to Sony's confirmation that certain operations will be suspended following recent earthquakes in the Kumamoto region.

Sony's Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation's Kumamoto Technology Center halted production following the earthquake on April 14 and currently remain suspended. The facility manufacturers image sensors for digital cameras and security cameras and micro-display devices.

Sony also said some of its equipment at a manufacturing center in Nagaski and Oita City had been temporarily halted and Oita Technology Center However, the affected equipment has been sequentially restarted on Sunday with the resumption of production.

Finally, Sony's manufacturing center in Kagoshima continued its production operations following the earthquakes with no major effects on its operations.

Sony also confirmed the safety of all of its employees in the region and the impact of the events on its consolidated results is currently being evaluated.
