The Dow fell 0.90 percent to 17,556.31, while the NASDAQ composite index declined 1.23 percent to 4,860.42. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 0.97 percent to 2,046.72.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

Investment Brokerage - Regional: This industry slipped 3.9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Investment Technology Group (NYSE: ITG), which fell 6.2 percent. Investment Technology Group shares have declined 30.37 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has dropped 0.73 percent in the same period.

Synthetics: This industry declined 2.6 percent by 11:00 am with Axiall Corp (NYSE: AXLL) moving down 1.8 percent. Axiall shares have dipped 52.55 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has dropped 0.73 percent in the same period.

Technical Services: This industry fell 1.9 percent by 11:00 am ET. KBR, Inc. (NYSE: KBR) shares dropped 3.3 percent in today's trading. KBR shares have dropped 4.43 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has declined 0.73 percent in the same period.

Catalog & Mail Order Houses: The industry dropped 1.8 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), which declined 1.6 percent. Channel Advisor said that Amazon's March same-store sales rose 14.9 percent, marking a decrease from February's 16.6 percent.
