Kolkata Overpass Collapse Kills at Least 14, Scores Feared Trapped

At least 14 people are dead in Kolkata, India following an overpass collapse. According to NBC News, an overpass under construction in Kolkata collapsed on to moving traffic. At least 150 people were also said to be trapped under the collapsed overpass. The more than 1 mile long overpass has been under construction since 2009 and missed several deadlines for completion. NBC News noted that construction projects in India continue to suffer from poor safety standards. India's government may need to invest around $1 trillion for new and improved infrastructure projects over the next few years, the country's Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was quoted as saying back in May, 2015.
