The Dow rose 1.30 percent to 16,089.81, while the NASDAQ composite index climbed 2.30 percent to 4,575.09. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 1.78 percent to 1,902.21.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

Drug Delivery: This industry declined 1.1 percent by 11:00 am with Delcath Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: DCTH) moving down 6.8 percent. Delcath shares have dropped 65.04 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has slipped 8.91 percent in the same period.

Diversified Machinery: The industry dropped 0.9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NASDAQ: OPTT), which declined 3.2 percent. Ocean Power Technologies' trailing-twelve-month ROE is -87.27 percent.

Health Care Plans: This industry slipped 0.7 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was CIGNA Corporation (NYSE: CI), which fell 1.2 percent. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Thursday informed Cigna that it could no longer enroll or solicit new customers in its Medicare or prescription drug plans, effective Thursday at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Publishing - Books: This industry fell 0.6 percent by 11:00 am ET. John Wiley & Sons Inc (NYSE: JW-A) shares dropped 0.6 percent in today's trading.
