Report: Taiwan Semiconductor To Start Production Of 7nm Chip In 2018, 5nm Chips To Lanch In 2020
According to DigiTimes, a daily newspaper for semiconductor, electronics and computer communications industries in Taiwan, Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg. Co. Ltd. (ADR)(NYSE: TSM) is expected to begin production of 7nm chips in the first half of 2018.
DigiTimes, citing Taiwan Semiconductor's co-CEO Mark Liu, reported that production of the 7nm will begin in the first half of 2018 and the company has already been engaged in R&D activities for a 5nm process technology.
The report added that the 5nm node will be ready for launch in the first half of 2020.
Finally, DigiTimes noted that customer tape-outs for TSMC's 10nm node will begin in the first quarter of 2016.
Shares of TSMC have lost more than 6 percent over the past year.
