Variety: Disney's 'Star Wars' Surpasses $1 Billion In Global Ticket Sales

Shares of Walt Disney Co DIS were trading lower by 0.14 percent at $105.95 early Monday morning despite the company making cinematic history over the weekend. According to a report by Variety, Disney's 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' surged past the $1 billion mark in global sales at a faster pace than any other film in history. Variety added that the film collected a "mammoth" $544.6 million, propelling the film to cross the $1 billion in worldwide sales in just 12 days, edging out the 13 days it took the prior record holder, 'Jurassic World' to accomplish.
