US stock futures traded lower in early pre-market trade. Data on international trade for August will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 29 points to 16,630.0, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index futures fell 4.50 points to 1,970.25. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index slipped 13.25 points to 4,298.00.

European markets were mostly higher today, with the Spanish Ibex Index gaining 0.63 percent, STOXX Europe 600 Index jumping 0.37 percent and German DAX 30 index gaining 0.73 percent. French CAC 40 Index rose 0.66 percent and London's FTSE 100 Index fell 0.02 percent. In Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei Stock Average rose 1 percent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.10 percent and India's BSE Sensex climbed 0.55 percent.
