Mid-Day Market Update: Tuesday's Top 10 Volume Stocks

The Dow Jones Industrial Index declined 1.30 percent, the S&P 500 dwindled 1.00 percent, the NASDAQ Composite shot down 1.06 percent, the U.S. Dollar Index jumped up 0.33 percent, and the crude oil WTI sank nearly 4 percent in Tuesday’s midday market session.

The following were the top 10 volume stocks of the day:

  • Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) came in first place for two days in a row with volumes of ~30.3 million versus its three-month average of ~53.06 million.
  • Bank of America Corp (NYSE: BAC) came in second with volumes of 25.54 million versus its average of ~82.46 million.
  • Freeport-McMoRan Inc (NYSE: FCX) jumped to third place with volumes of ~24.66 million versus its average of ~28.22 million.
  • Sprint Corp (NYSE: S) had volumes of ~24.25 million versus its average of ~29.46 million.
  • Novavax Inc (NASDAQ: NVAX) made it to the list with volumes of ~20.77 million versus its average of only ~4.05 million.
  • Alcoa Inc (NYSE: AA) had volumes of ~18.46 million versus its average of ~25 million.
  • Vale SA (NYSE: VALE) had volumes of ~17.72 million versus its average of ~30.57 million.
  • Barrick Gold Corporation (NYSE: ABX) made it to the list with volumes of ~17.02 million versus its average of ~21.35 million.
  • Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE: CHK) had volumes of ~16.16 million versus its average of ~25.05 million.
  • Sunedison Inc (NYSE: SUNE) made it to the list again with volumes of ~14.19 million, below its average of ~19.18 million.

Overall, the top 10 volume stocks were trading below their three-month average volumes.
