The event recognizes tech startups from the region, as industry experts vote to elect a winner in categories like "Best Entertainment Startup," "Best Education Startup" and a new category added just this year, "Best Cryptocurrency Startup."

The Europas are an apt place to recognize startups specializing in digital currencies, as London has been named as one of the most accommodating cities in the world for cryptocurrency enthusiasts. For that reason, many believe that the future of cryptocurrencies will stem from London, and possibly one of the five nominees for the Europa award.

Bitfury is a bitcoin blockchain security and infrastructure provider with offices in both San Francisco and Amsterdam. The company's CEO Valery Vavilov said the company sees blockchain as a major advancement in the tech space and that Bitfury is committed to continuous innovation and "designing and implementing technology for the greater human good."

Bitpay is a payment-processing firm that has worked together with big name companies to integrate digital currencies into their online payment options. The firm has commanded a great deal of attention over the past year as big name investors like Founders Fund and Sir Richard Branson contributed to BitPay's more than $32 million worth of fundraising.

Not only does the company consider itself an innovator in the bitcoin mining space, but it has been able to power its operations by using sustainable energy sources.
