Pot Tourism Sparks Up Marijuana Hotels

For a stoner looking to be pampered for the weekend, the Four Seasons isn't an option as marijuana legislation allows for the possession and use of marijuana, just not in a public place. In states like Colorado and Washington where recreational marijuana use has been legalized, pot tourism has become a major source of revenue and eager entrepreneurs are looking to fill the void for pot-friendly hotels with their own offerings. Bud And Breakfast In the spirit of a sharing economy, Sean Roby developed budandbreakfast.com. The site, often called the Airbnb of marijuana, provides travelers with a list of accommodation options that allow marijuana use. The site was launched at the beginning of April and has since had an influx of homeowners living in pot-friendly states who are offering up places for marijuana tourists to stay. Some accommodation only allows smoking outside, while others provide indoor smoking areas and even give their guests cannabis paraphernalia. Wake And Bake Joel Schneider similarly saw a gap in the market for marijuana-friendly hotels and started up his own chain of marijuana-themed hotels. The company's first hotel, a Denver-based B&B called Adagio has been open for just over a year and offers guests discounts at local dispensaries and allows them to smoke onsite. Schneider has also opened another location called Silverthorne near the state's ski slopes. The Napa Of Pot Roby and Schneider are both capitalizing on a growing industry that some are comparing to California's Napa Valley. With marijuana legalization spreading, the drug's user base has seen an influx of affluent, educated people who want to enjoy cannabis in style. More and more people are planning trips to pot-friendly states in order to smoke, creating a growing need for accommodation that allows the drug to be consumed on site.
