Short Interest Update On Solar Stocks

Solar stocks were higher Tuesday and in some cases a short squeeze may have pushed prices upwards as traders covered short positions.

Overall, short positions as a percentage of each stock’s float decreased since the prior two-week reporting period.

First Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSLR) had 11.14 percent of its float short. This was a decrease of 6.95 percent from the previous two-week reporting period.

First Solar recently traded at $56.39, up 13.6 percent.

SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ: SPWR) had 19.06 percent of its float short, a 4.57 percent decrease from the prior period.

SunPower recently traded at $32.38, up 16.5 percent.

SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ: SCTY) had the largest percentage of its float short among the stocks listed here, coming in at 35.72 percent. Shorts declined 4.54 percent since the prior two-week period.

SolarCity also had the smallest gain by mid-day and recently traded at $53.99, up 1.57 percent.

Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ) had the lowest percent of shares short at 10.28 percent of the float. The company also had the largest decline of shorts with 28.83 percent decrease since the prior two-week period.

Canadian Solar recently traded at $30.37, up 6.6 percent.

SunEdison Inc (NYSE: SUNE) had the second-largest percentage of the float short, coming in at 32.00 percent. This was a 1.81 percent decrease since the prior reporting period.

SunEdison recently traded at $23.51, up 4.6 percent.
