Urmson: "Most people talk about the laser in our vehicle, but it actually uses radar and camera data as well." Urmson: "For the self-driving part of the vehicle, the maps and the software do matter, but the heart of what we're trying to do is getting the right sensing." Urmson: "We're building these prototype vehicles that allow us to learn quickly.... We're definitely not in the business of making cars. We're building these vehicles to allow us to explore the technology." Urmson: Google Cars Understand Semantics Of Driving Like How To Respond To Pedestrians, School Buses and Emergency Vehicles Urmson: "About a year and a half ago, we started to refocus our efforts so that the vehicle really could drive everywhere." Urmson: "We had 140 employees use the technology to get to and from work every day. It was transformative." Urmson: "By 2013, we developed a system that we thought was robust enough to have other Google employees use to commute."
