Uber said Thursday it raised $1.2 billion in a new venture financing round, giving it additional capacity remaining for strategic investments.

The new venture capital financing may value Uber at $40 billion, according to the New York Times, although the company didn't provide details.

The $1.2 billion venture financing "will allow Uber to make substantial investments, particularly in the Asia Pacific region," Uber said.

Uber last month was reportedly in talks for the venture financing with its existing investors, which includes Blackrock, TPG, Google Ventures and Menlo Ventures, according to a report citing unnamed sources by The Financial Times.

Also Wednesday, the company reportedly filed for approval to sell up to $1.8 billion in new Series E preferred stock, according to a Delaware filing on Thursday reported by Fortune.
