General Motors November Unit Sales Up 6%

General Motors Company's GM total sales grew 6 percent last month to 225,818 vehicles, marking its best November in seven years.

“More people have jobs and job security, their wages are starting to increase," Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of sales said. "Low pump prices look like they're here to stay through 2015."

GM's average transaction price in November hit a record $35,600, according to the company, citing J.D. Power estimates. The average grew $790 per unit compared with October and up 9.5 percent or $3,100 versus a year ago.

Incentive spending by the company equaled 10.4 percent of the average GM transaction price in November, down 1.2 points month-over-month, while the industry's average spending was 9.6 percent. down 0.1 points, GM said.

That compares with year-earlier incentive spending of 10.2 percent of the average GM price, and an industry average of 9.7 percent.

GM's retail sales in November were up 5 percent from a year earlier and fleet deliveries were up 11 percent.

The company's seasonally adjusted annual selling rate for light vehicles in November was 17.1 million, the highest since 2003.

Year-to-date, the company is selling vehicles at an annual rate of 16.5 million units, which is the upper end of the 16 million to 16.5 million range GM forecast at the beginning of the year.

Demand in November was robust for everything from smaller cars and crossovers to big trucks, the company said.

The Buick brand had its best November since 2003, while GMC had its best November since 2001, the company said.

At Chevrolet, the Spark, Cruze and Equinox models also had their best November sales ever, Silverado had its best November since 2006 and Traverse had its best November since 2010.
