Interfax reported Monday night that the CEO of the third-largest oil company in Europe died.
According to the report, Total CEO Christophe de Margerie died in a private plane that crashed in Moscow at the Vnukovo Airport. The crash took place before the plane left Moscow, having hit a snow patrol vehicle before collapsing on itself and catching fire.
Authorities are expected to investigate why a vehicle was on the tarmac, which is breach of basic procedure.
Oil futures remained unchanged around the event at about $81.82.
