US Stock Futures Higher On Upbeat Alcoa Earnings

US stock futures are higher this morning, after Alcoa AA reported upbeat quarterly earnings. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 60 points to 15,220.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 7.30 points to 1,642.80. Nasdaq 100 futures gained 13.25 points to 2,972.00. US stocks closed higher on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average surging 0.59% to 15,224.69, the S&P 500 index rising 0.53% to 1,640.46 and the Nasdaq 100 index gaining 0.16% to 3,484.83. The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index for June will be released at 7:30 a.m. ET. The ICSC-Goldman Sachs store sales index will be released at 7:45 a.m. ET, while the Johnson Redbook Retail Sales Index will be released at 8:55 a.m. ET. Alcoa reported a better-than-expected second-quarter profit. WD-40 Co WDFC reported a 12% rise in its net income for the fiscal third quarter. Intuitive Surgical ISRG issued downbeat second-quarter revenue forecast. Hi-Tech Pharmacal Co HITK is expected to report its Q4 earnings at $0.63 per share on revenue of $66.33 million. Wolverine World Wide WWW is projected to report its Q2 earnings at $0.34 per share on revenue of $591.03 million. Franklin Covey Co FC is expected to post its Q3 earnings at $0.12 per share on revenue of $43.28 million. Helen of Troy HELE is projected to post its Q4 earnings at $0.71 per share on revenue of $301.50 million. European markets were higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index rose 0.83%, London's FTSE 100 index gained 1.06%, French CAC 40 Index climbed 0.79% and German DAX 30 index rose 1.13%. Asian markets ended higher, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average gaining 2.58%, China's Shanghai Composite surging 0.37% and Australia's ASX/S&P500 rising 1.44%. Hong Kong's Heng Seng Index gained 0.49% and India's Sensex jumped 0.64%. China's consumer price index rose 2.7% y/y in June, versus a 2.1% gain in May.
