InterDigital, Inc.
IDCC, a wireless research and development company, today announced
that its patent holding subsidiaries have entered into a new agreement with
SII Mobile Communications Inc. to extend patent coverage to include 4G
technologies, including LTE and LTE-Advanced, as well as products not
previously covered under the parties' existing agreement. The patent license
agreements now provide SII Mobile Communications with worldwide,
non-transferable, non-exclusive, royalty-bearing patent coverage for certain
products designed to operate in accordance with 2G, 3G, and 4G wireless
technologies. SII Mobile Communications Inc. is a subsidiary of Seiko
Instruments Inc. and is headquartered in Japan.
"We are pleased that SII Mobile Communications has agreed to extend their
patent coverage to include 4G, reflecting InterDigital's growing portfolio of
4G patents," said Lawrence F. Shay, President of InterDigital's patent holding
subsidiaries. "With the signing of another licensee to our 4G portfolio, we
continue the 4G licensing momentum we have shown over the last several
months. As the 4G product market continues to grow, we expect more licensees
to amend their patent license agreements with us to cover their 4G products
and we expect our recurring royalties beyond 2G and 3G royalties to increase
as well."
