A Peek Into The Market Before The Trading Starts

Pre-open movers US stock futures are slightly higher this morning, as investors are awaiting earnings from Alcoa AA later in the day. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 10 points to 13,317.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 0.20 points to 1,456.10. Nasdaq 100 futures gained 1.50 points to 2,719.25. A Peek Into Global Markets European markets were higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index rose 0.28%, London's FTSE 100 Index gained 0.39%, German DAX 30 Index climbed 0.22% and French CAC 40 Index rose 0.67%. Asian markets ended mostly lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average falling 0.86%, China's Shanghai Composite declining 0.41% and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index dropping 0.54%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.94% and India's Sensex gained 0.26%. Broker Recommendation Analysts at Piper Jaffray upgraded Joy Global JOY from “neutral” to “overweight.” The target price for Joy Global has been raised from $63 to $84.
