According to government statistics agency IBGE, Brazil's benchmark IPCA consumer price index climbed 0.36% in May, versus a rise of 0.64% in April. Analysts were expecting the IPCA index to increase 0.42% in May.
The country's IPCA index surged 4.99% in the 12 months through May. The IPCA climbed 6.5% in 2011.
