City of Houston Signs New Electricity Supply Agreement with Reliant

The city of Houston has signed a new electricity supply agreement for Reliant, an NRG NRG company, to power city hall and its other facilities for three years. In addition to saving the city roughly $30 million annually, the contract provides an opportunity to purchase renewable energy credits and supports the city's Hire Houston First initiative. “It's a great deal for us,” Houston Mayor Annise Parker said about the agreement with Reliant. “Not only are we getting quality service at a competitive price, but we're working with a home-grown electricity supplier like Reliant that is deeply involved in our community. We have a responsibility to the city and the people of Houston to do everything we can to keep jobs in our city and our partnership with Reliant does that. Selecting Reliant reinforces our Hire Houston First initiative, which grants preference to local businesses when awarding certain contracts.”
