Mortgage-Application Volume Up 4.8%

The number of mortgage applications filed in the US climbed 4.8% last week versus the prior week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. Refinance activity surged 4%, while purchasing climbed by a seasonally adjusted 7.2%. Applications for government loans jumped more than 10%.
