Check The Mike, President

It's hardly the most embarrassing gaff to have occurred in the history of politics, but President Obama will surely be wishing that he'd made sure all of the press had been out of the room before asking of Republicans “You think we're stupid?” into a live microphone. He made the comment after dismissing the press pool and while addressing political donors, but Mark Knoller of CBS News had stuck around and he took notes. The President was referring to the recent budget talks and what he perceived as efforts to sneak in cuts on Planned Parenthood. "I said (to Republicans), You want to repeal health care? Go at it," Obama said. "We'll have that debate. You're not going to be able to do that by nickel-and-diming me in the budget. You think we're stupid?" Again, it could have been far worse. He could have asked “Are you stupid?” Still, it's a minor embarrassment and a reminder to the President that he should either switch microphones off or check the room more carefully.
