Disneyland In Hot Water Over SSN-Embedded IDs (DIS)

If you thought that LifeLock was bad with Social Security numbers, you should hear what Walt Disney Co. DIS is doing with them. Unlike the old, paper or plastic IDs of the past, Disneyland IDs are now embedded with Social Security numbers. This has prompted a lawsuit from angry employees that claim that smartphone-toting thieves can read the cards and retrieve the embedded SSNs. The lawsuit (which claims that Disney has invaded the privacy of its employees while violating the California Constitution and business code) was announced at a press conference organized by a union that, according to the Associated Press, “has been locked in bitter negotiations with Disney for months.” Suzi Brown, a spokeswoman for Walt Disney Co., fought back by saying that the lawsuit is being used to distract from those negotiations. Further, she said that the company is in the process of modifying its computer systems "to address ever-changing technologies, including third-party cell phone apps."
