The votes are in. The winners have been decided.
After hours of carefully examining the 15-, 30-, 90- and 120-second TV spots that filled the commercial space during Super Bowl XLV, the Benzinga crew has selected the best advertisements.
1. Imported From Detroit
Without a doubt, the two-minute Chrysler 200 advertisement has garnered the most positive response, both within the office and all over the Web.
More commonly known as the “Eminem commercial,” this ad was more like a trailer for Detroit than anything else, showcasing the rap star along with numerous landmarks from the city. The pro-Detroit message at the end, “Imported From Detroit,” provided a clever twist on the influx of foreign cars in America.
But that message – and the presence of a recording legend – might have overshadowed the commercial's primary goal: to promote the Chrysler 200. As the most talked about ad of the Super Bowl, however, Chrysler isn't the only automaker that stands to profit. Ford F and General Motors GM could also benefit from the Detroit-centric campaign.
2. Reply All
This hilarious Bridgestone ad gained universal praise from the Benzinga staff (and most everyone else).
3. The Force
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
4. Tibet
While Groupon's Big Game debut was met with a degree of controversy, the ad campaign – a money-saving satire featuring Timothy Hutton – was designed to promote the site in a silly and lighthearted manner.
5. After Glow
Sealy Corporation ZZ found another reason for us to buy a new mattress.
6. Shape-Up
Wow, those Skechers SKX are awesome. Yes, that is why we love this commercial – the shoes.
7. Black Beetle
Coca-Cola KO is traditionally known as the company that produces the best animated ads. But at this year's Super Bowl, a new champion has been crowned.
8. Carma
Remember, Super Bowl viewers: if you swerve and crash your car to miss a squirrel, he will high-five his buddy and laugh. But if you swerve to miss a beaver, he will return the favor in six months.
9. Hack Job
I'm no home makeover expert, but I think he did a spectacular job.
10. One Epic Ride
Coming soon, from the director of Independence Day…
