Nick Woodman: Hero 4 Session Won't Cannibalize Sales Of Other Hero 4 Cameras, Perfect Camera For Existing GoPro Customers

GoPro Inc GPRO announced its new action camera Hero 4 Session on Monday. The company plans to roll out the new device from next week at a retail price of $399.

Nick Woodman, GoPro CEO, was on CNBC recently to discuss about the new camera and if it will affect sales of the company's other offerings.

Smallest, Lightest, Most Convenient

"Session has been over 3 years in the making at GoPro," Woodman began. "It all began when we challenged ourselves to build the smallest, lightest most convenient GoPro possible...It's the smallest camera we have ever made, it's half the size of our other cameras, 40 percent lighter and it packs our Emmy award winning image quality into what we think is one of the most convenient ways to capture your life."

Won't Cannibalize Sales Of Other High-End Models

Woodman was asked if the Hero 4 Session can cannibalize the sales of the higher-end Hero 4 Black. He replied, "No, I think that Session is a perfect camera for existing GoPro customers that want an additional GoPro to capture additional perspectives of whatever it is that they love to do. It's a great tool for their life capture bag, if you will."

And for new customers, I mean this GoPro is so easy to use that we think its size and simplicity is going to be really appealing, the image quality is fantastic. At the highest end Black, our Hero 4 Black camera is for those that want no holds barred performance, the best of the best. Then you have Hero 4 Silver which retails for $400 and that's a perfect blend of performance and convenience with its touch LCD screen on the back."

"And then you got Session, which is just focussed on size and simplicity and this is going to be really appealing to a lot of customers. So, I think, Session actually does a really good job of rounding out our total offering at the Hero 4 high-end line of our products," Woodman concluded.
