What Drives Elon Musk?

There’s a new book coming up on arguably the most sought after entrepreneur in Silicon Valley: Tesla Motors Inc TSLA founder and CEO, Elon Musk.

Author Ashlee Vance was on Bloomberg TV Thursday to talk about his book "Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future" and to share some important aspects of Elon Musk’s life and personality.

Interesting Fact About Childhood

“He is real loner and he had a hard time in school,” Vance said. “People bullied him and then he didn’t have any super-close friends and I think it is interesting that he has become this like celebrity kind of CEO now because when I talked to his friends they said, ‘this will be the last person you kind of expect to have done all this.’”

Taking Humans To Mars

Vance was asked about what traits distinguishes Musk from other entrepreneurs and people in general. He replied, “I think Elon is going to be a unique case because he talks about wanting to take man to Mars and becoming a multi-planetary species and I think some people think it’s sort of schtick."

“But I mean, I think this comes from his childhood and this is his life’s quest and everything comes from there. And so he’s just so driven to make this happen and that’s where he drives his employees hard, that’s where he comes up with these ideas. I mean this is like, this clear end-goal for him,” Vance said.
