Airbus Reportedly In Advanced Talks With Atos For Cybersecurity Division: Inside The High-Stakes Negotiations

Airbus SE EADSY is reportedly in "advanced" talks with European multinational information technology firm Atos' over its cybersecurity division BDS.

Airbus and Atos' board of directors are holding "bilateral talks," according to a news report by Reuters, citing French newspaper Le Figaro.

In late March, Airbus said it had settled not to make an offer for a 29.9% stake in Atos' division Evidian, which was renamed Eviden, the report read. BDS is part of Eviden.

Despite withdrawing from the Eviden agreement in March, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury expressed that the company remains open to a strategic partnership with Atos, the report read.

Faury had earlier said that an agreement would be sensible because big data, connectivity, and high-power computing increasingly drove aerospace.

Industry sources told Reuters that the challenges with Atos are among the reasons Airbus decided to restructure starting in 2024.

This reorganization will allow Faury to concentrate on defense and space strategy, with Christian Scherer taking over the planemaking arm.

Airbus delivered 64 aircraft in November, bringing the total deliveries to 623 units.

The European plane manufacturer was recently in the headlines as one of its subsidiaries was reportedly advancing in developing high-altitude, solar-powered drones designed to provide communication services.
