Kraft Heinz In Meltdown: 83,800 Cases Of Singles Recalled As Consumers Choke On Plastic Stuck To Cheese Slices

The Kraft Heinz Company KHC voluntarily recalled approximately 83,800 cases of individually wrapped Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices owing to the choking hazard of some of its wrappers.

The said batch of Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices were shipped to a limited number of customers, the company said.

The precautionary voluntary recall has been initiated due to a temporary glitch in the company's wrapping machine, which could leave a thin strip of film on a slice even after removing the wrapper.

This residual film could become an unpleasant surprise if unnoticed, potentially posing a gagging or choking hazard to the consumer.

The issue surfaced following numerous consumer complaints about encountering plastic stuck to the slices, including six alarming instances where consumers reported experiencing choking or gagging due to this complication.

However, the company added that no incidents resulting in injuries or severe health repercussions have been reported.

As of now, Kraft Heinz said it has fixed the machine that wrapped the affected slices, and all other processing machines have been thoroughly inspected.

Kraft Heinz apologized for the glitch and requested customers not to consume the product who purchased slices with the "Best When Used By" date of 10th January 2024 through 27th January 2024. The company said the customers can also return the products for an exchange or refund.

Only Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices with the case/package information below are affected. Kraft Heinz added that no other varieties or sizes are included in the recall.

Price Action: KHC shares are trading lower by 0.12% to $33.98 on the last check Thursday.
