An investing arm of Goldman Sachs GS is in the final stages of an agreement to buy AXA’s significant stake in China’s fourth largest life insurer, Taikang Life, for $1.05 billion. Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Company KFN and Blackstone Group BX were among the several private equity firms that competed in the Taikang auction. Singapore's Temasek Holdings was also in the race. Verizon VZ and Google GOOG are working together on a tablet computer. The computer might prove to be a competitor for Apple’s AAPL iPad and might assist Verizon in fighting against AT&T T, the carrier for the iPad, and Amazon’s AMZN Kindle. Morgan Stanley MS is being reportedly investigated by federal officials on the issue of whether the firm has misled investors over mortgage derivatives it helped design. MS has been know to sometimes bet against the collateralized-debt obligations (CDOs), which are pools of bond-related investments, arranged and marketed to investors.
