- bluebird bio (NASDAQ: BLUE) - 33 percent - stocks surged after the biotech firm announced its gene therapy had success treating two patients with an inherited blood disorder called beta-thalassemia.
- Williams Companies (NYSE: WMB) - 23 percent - stocks have been surging for the firm after a recent acquistion announcement Monday in taking the steps to becoming a $100 billion energy company.
- Fusion-io (NYSE: FIO) - 23 percent - stocks were trading up after the announcement SanDisck (NASDAQ: SNDK) would acquire the firm.
- Covidien plc (NYSE: COV) - 20 percent - stocks surged after the announcement Medtronic (NYSE: MDT) would acquire the firm.
- Achillion Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ACHN) - 16 percent - shares were rallying after having its price target raised to $22 from $6 by analysts at Maxim.
- UBIC (NASDAQ: UBIC) - 13 percent
- Limelight Networks (NASDAQ: LLNW) - 11 percent - shares were up after the firm announced it rejected an unsolicited takeover bid from Tuition Build.
- Northwest Biotherapeutics (NASDAQ: NWBO) - 11 percent - the stock was trading higher after the firm was named to two Russell Indexes: Russell Global and Russell 3000.
- ChannelAdvisor (NYSE: ECOM) - 9 percent
- Sequenom (NASDAQ: SQNM) - 9 percent - stocks have been trading up after the firm announced it would be collaborating with Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX) to expand patient access to the MaterniT21 PLUS noninvasive prenatal test; with Sequenom receiving FDA pre-market clearance.
Losers
- DreamWorks Animation SKG (NASDAQ: DWA) - 13 percent - shares fell after How To Train Your Dragon 2 fell short of expectations.
- Layne Christensen Company (NASDAQ: LAYN) - 12 percent - stock was trading down after the company reported a decrease in revenue to $191.2 million for the 2015 first quarter, compared to $226.4 million for the same period last year.
- Karyopharm Therapeutics (NASDAQ: KPTI) - 12 percent - shares were down after the firm announced the FDA has considered the effectiveness for Verinexor as 'minor use.'
- EnteroMedics (NASDAQ: ETRM) - 8 percent - stocks continued to fall after the firm announced it would issue shares through Cowen and Company, LLC as $0.01 par value per share.
- Pampa Energia SA (NYSE: PAM) - 8 percent - stocks fell early into the trading session and have been sitting at the 8.8-8.6 range.
- 22nd Century Group (NYSE: XXII) - 7 percent - shares have been trading down after news that the firm would be added to Russell 3000, Russell 2000, Russell Global and Russell Microcap Indexes.
- Vertex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: VRTX) - 7 percent - stocks fell after Bernstein analyst Geoff Porges went to Sweden and returned predicting drug failure for the company.
- China XD Plastics Company Ltd. (NASDAQ: CXDC) - 7 percent - shares continued to be traded down over the past four market sessions.
