Wednesday's Market Round-Up; All Major Sectors Lower

A relatively large sell-off (compared to the recent past) has taken place in the U.S. stock market on Wednesday. Some trepidation about recent economic data combined with profit taking has triggered the decline in the market mid-week. Near the close of trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had shed 84 points to 13,113. The S&P was down more than 8 points and is sitting just above the 1,400 level at 1,404. The Nasdaq Composite average was down 17 points, or 0.54%, to 3,103. The worst performing sectors have been basic materials and energy, which are particularly sensitive to the outlook for the global economy. Basic materials have fallen 1.49% while energy is down 1.40%. Although all of the major sectors are lower on the day, financials have been the best performer, losing 0.15%.
