The Carlyle Group agreed to sell Kbro, to the Tsai family in a deal worth about $1.9 billion, sources with knowledge of the situation said on Monday.
The Tsai family who are the the controlling shareholders of Fubon and Taiwan Mobile, set up a private firm to buy the unit. This is seen as an encouraging sign for global private equity investors in Taiwan, some of which have struggled to recoup investments made there. The Tsai family will be assuming Kbro's debt as part of the transaction. Taiwan Mobile is Taiwan's largest cable TV operator.
