Jim Harbaugh accepted the Big 10’s three-game suspension Thursday following allegations of a sign-stealing scandal orchestrated by graduate assistant Connor Stalions.
The University of Michigan head football coach will not be on the sideline for the team’s final games of the regular season.
The Wolverines are ranked third in the nation in the college football playoff rankings behind Georgia and Ohio State. The team will have an opportunity to leapfrog Ohio State and potentially Georgia if it can beat the Buckeyes on Saturday, Nov. 25.
"This morning, the University, Coach Harbaugh, and the Big Ten resolved their pending litigation. The Conference agreed to close its investigation, and the University and Coach Harbaugh agreed to accept the three-game suspension," Associate Athletic Director Kurt Svoboda said in a statement. "Coach Harbaugh, with the University's support, decided to accept this sanction to return the focus to our student-athletes and their performance on the field.
The Wolverines will try to get back to the college football playoffs after losing to TCU in the semifinals last year. TCU went on to lose against Georgia, which won its second consecutive national championship.
