Is Joe Biden To Blame? Voters Are Less Confident In The Democratic Party, Survey Shows

Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election and became the 46th president of the U.S. The 2024 presidential election could see a rematch between Trump and Biden once again.

A new survey shows the Democratic party could be in trouble ahead of the highly anticipated bout.

What Happened: President Joe Biden is the odds-on favorite to secure the Democratic Party nomination for president in the 2024 presidential election based on recent polls.

When choosing who to vote for in the 2024 election, voters may look back at what Biden has accomplished since taking office in 2021.

Some voters may also look at how well-equipped the Democratic party led by Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are to lead the country in certain aspects.

A new Morning Consult poll shows that U.S. voters might have less confidence in the Democratic party leading the country going forward.

The survey asked voters of both parties how they felt about their party going forward.

Here’s a look at some of the questions, with the percent from the same poll in 2020 in parentheses:

• Party capable of governing: Democrats 44% (48%), Republicans 47% (42%)
• Party will keep country safe: Democrats 41% (44%), Republicans 47% (42%)
• Party can tackle the big issues: Democrats 39% (44%), Republicans 45% (38%)
• Party is responsible: Democrats 42% (43%), Republicans 41% (36%)

Why It’s Important: The results of the poll show the Democrats losing support in several key questions about the future of the country including the capability to govern, keeping the country safe and being able to tackle big issues.

While voters were less enthusiastic about the Democratic party in the categories, the Republican party saw support grow in the questions from the previous 2020 poll.

Voters saw the Republican party being the party most capable of governing and tackling big issues.

Another question asked was if the respective party was stale. Forty-seven percent of Democrats voted yes, compared to 40% in the 2020 survey. The Republican party got 49% of the vote for being stale, which was higher than the Democratic party, but down from 52% in the 2020 survey.

The survey also took a look at how the parties were doing at appealing to the middle-of-the-road voters and potential independent voters. Forty-seven percent of voters said the Democratic party was too liberal, up from 40% in the 2020 election poll.

On the Republican side, 38% of voters said their party was too conservative, which was the same percentage in the poll in 2020.

The results might suggest the Democratic party is looking to move further from the middle, which could be bad news ahead of a highly contested 2024 election with independent voters and some overall voters looking for a party that can unite the country.
