Let Them Eat Cake

It is amazing that the government can just choose not to talk about the impending doom of the US economy and retreat to the comfort of their cushy homes that were paid for by the tax payers of this country.  The rest of the country is left flapping in the wind as we continue to put our lives on hold while Washington plays the blame game.

If our elected officials worked in the private sector and chose to go home rather than communicate with their colleagues to solve a problem that was critical to the future of their company, they would be fired and the company would cease to exist.  It seems that the mantra of this administration is “Ignore and it will go away” when the truth is “Ignore and it gets worse”.  This country is on the verge of defaulting on their loan and Washington doesn’t seem to be that concerned about it.  The US economy will be dealt another knockout blow because our government is either inept or doesn’t care.

This country was founded on the principle of “government for the people and by the people”.  I don’t know anyone who thinks the current situation in Washington is in any way reflective of that principle.  This country is crumbling from the core and you can’t see it because your world has been unaffected.  Spend some time in Middle America and you will see how this country has deteriorated in the last 5 years.

Main Street America looks like Gary, Indiana when the steel mills shut down in the eighties.  Large companies are cutting back, strip malls are only half rented, mom and pop stores are closing at break neck speed, home equity is flat lining and turning south, unemployment is up and hiring is down.  The few jobs that have been added to the economy this year are low paying part-time jobs.  The core of our country, the middle class, is drowning and our “leaders” do not seem to be that concerned.  When the fallout finally reaches Washington and it will if we continue on this current path, it will be too late to do anything.  Washington put aside petty differences roll up your sleeves and get to work our countries future is at stake.
