Elon Musk Wants X To Be A Twitch Alternative, Posts A Video Of Him Streaming Diablo

Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) is testing a new feature – live video game streaming, as Musk looks to make X the "everything app". This new feature would see X take on Amazon.com Inc.-owned AMZN Twitch and even Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL YouTube.

What Happened: Days after Musk's livestream froze when he was at the US-Mexico border at Eagle Pass in Texas, X is gearing up to bring live video game streaming to the platform.

"Testing game streaming," the world's richest person said, responding to another freshly-created account that posted a video titled "Gaming Stream Test". Musk has previously used burner accounts, and in this instance, the stream is his own, confirming that he is the one testing game streaming.

Musk is a known gamer and a Diablo fan. He invited gamers to play with him and even kill him in the game.

"Am in the Diablo PvP arena for ~10 mins if anyone wants to kill me lol," he posted.

Why It Matters: X has been trying to evolve from being a text-based platform to one that people go to for video content.

Since taking over the control of X, Musk has embarked on making X the “everything app” – including payments, audio and video calling, and shopping.

X has made a few improvements to the video features available on its platform – this includes expanding the video toolset to allow extended video length of up to three hours for X Premium subscribers, support for 1080p quality, and allowing users to download videos.

In September, X CEO Linda Yaccarino reported that video views on the platform had surged 465% in the ten days leading up to the New York Fashion Week.

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson also took to X to post his hour-long show titled "Tucker on X". Lex Fridman also posts his podcast on X now, apart from other platforms.
