Streaming giant Netflix Inc NFLX released its newest season of the hit show "The Crown," which depicted the British Royal Family.

While Royal Family member Prince Harry admitted to watching past episodes, he won't be tuning into the newest season.

What Happened: A sixth and final season of "The Crown" saw its first part (four episodes) released on the streaming platform Thursday. The final season comes around one year after Queen Elizabeth II, the key figure of the series, passed away at the age of 96.

The series, which started in 2016, explored the life of Queen Elizabeth II and her family with the fifth season focusing heavier on Prince Charles and Princess Diana. The sixth season would include the death of Diana.

"Queen Elizabeth II reflects on her legacy and lineage as Diana dazzles the public in the final weeks of her life and the monarchy faces a reckoning," the plot for the show co-produced with Sony Group Corp SONY reads.

One of the big questions marks around the final season had been whether Prince Harry would tune in.

A report from "The Daily Telegraph" said Prince Harry would tune into the final season, but another source told Deadline that was not the case.

Deadline reported the source said the storyline featuring Harry's mother would be of a "sensitive nature" and he would not watch. The prince was said to have no hard feelings towards the show or its plot for the final season.

Among the scenes included in the final season was the final phone call between Diana with sons Prince William and Prince Harry before her death.

The scene would likely be too much for Prince Harry, who previously said he was in a "desperate rush to say goodbye" and the event weighs "heavily" on him today.

The first four episodes of season six are now available on Netflix. Six additional episodes of the final season will be added to the platform on Dec. 14.

Why It's Important: Since 2016, "The Crown" has been a staple of Netflix original content and the final season could see strong ratings given it being the last season, the timing after the Queen's death and the subject matter of the well-loved Princess Diana.

On a previous episode of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," Prince Harry admitted to watching "The Crown" and joked he kept pen and paper handy to fact-check the episodes and content.

In 2021, Prince Harry said the series portrayed the Royal Family's push of "putting duty and service above family and everything else."

During the appearance on "The Late Late Show," Prince Harry told James Corden that while the show was fiction, there were many parts that were true.

"I am way more comfortable with ‘The Crown' than I am seeing stories written about my family or my wife. That [The Crown] is obviously fiction, take it how you will."

After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Netflix added a warning that the show was fictional in its season five trailers and promotional materials.
