In a continued push into gaming, Netflix Inc. NFLX is set to add the award-winning game “Hades” to its growing mobile gaming catalog in 2024.
What Happened: According to The Verge, Netflix is demonstrating its resolve to deliver high-quality gaming content. This commitment goes beyond casual games, now encompassing popular indie titles.
This is evident in the recent announcement that “Hades,” developed by Supergiant Games, is slated to make its mobile debut exclusively on Netflix.
“Hades” is an isometric dungeon crawler that lets players assume the role of Zagreus, the prince of Tartarus, on his quest to flee his father’s realm. The game, which has been praised for its engaging narrative and depth, was released in 2020 after a successful PC launch in 2018.
Despite the buzz around the announcement, the game will initially be available only on iOS, excluding Android users.
Why It Matters: Netflix’s foray into gaming began with its mobile gaming launch in November 2021, initially available on iOS and Android. The mobile game library has since rapidly expanded, boasting over 63 titles as of August this year.
The streaming giant is clearly aiming to grab a larger slice of the gaming market, as it expressed last month, “We want to begin to build a library of games that offers something for everyone.”
The addition of “Hades” to its library reflects this ambition.
