Markets End The Day Mixed (SPY, QQQQ, GLD, USO, TLT, UUP, AAPL)

U.S. equity indexes finished up Wednesday's trading session mixed, with the Dow posting modest gains and the S&P and Nasdaq closing in negative territory. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained about 5 points to finish at 10,298. The DJIA traded in a range of 10,227-10,493. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF SPY fell 0.28% to $109.26. Volume picked up a little today with the FOMC releasing their statement on interest rates and the state of the economy. Year to date, SPY is down almost 2%. The PowerShares QQQ Trust ETF QQQQ, which tracks the performance of the Nasdaq 100, shed 0.41% and closed at $46.05. Year to date, QQQQ has gained just 0.66%, giving back big gains from earlier in the year. The ETF's largest component company, Apple AAPL lost 1.05% today to $270.97. Gold slid marginally on Wednesday. The SPDR Gold Trust ETF GLD lost 0.41% to $120.95. COMEX gold futures are currently trading at $1,237. Year to date, GLD has surged 12.71%. Oil was also lower on the day, as investors trimmed risk appetite in the commodity space. The United States Oil Fund USO fell 2.17% to $34.24. NYMEX crude futures lost $2.00, or about 2.57%, and are currently trading at $75.85 per barrel. Treasuries moved higher on the day, as continued fears about economic growth and the Eurozone debt crisis drive investors into the perceived safety of U.S. debt. The iShares Lehman 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF TLT gained 0.68% to $99.24. The 10-year bond is currently yielding around 3.12%. The U.S. Dollar weakened after the Federal Reserve said that it anticipates "exceptionally low levels of the federal funds rate for an extended period," in its statement today. The PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish ETF UUP lost 0.40%, closing at $24.97. The closely watched EUR/USD pair is currently trading at $1.231.
