Merck in Talks to Acquire Cubist for ~$100/ShareThe Rumor:
Merck & Co Inc. (NYSE:
MRK), is reportedly in talks to acquire Lexington, MA-based Cubist Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:
CBST) for around $7.5 billion, or approximately $100 per share according to the NY Times DealBook. A deal could be announced as early as next week, according to persons familiar with the matter.
Cubist shares closed Friday at $74.36, down $0.16.
Open Text to Acquire Actuate for $6.60/ShareThe Deal:
OpenText Corporation (NASDAQ:
OTEX) announced Frday, an agreement to acquire Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ:
BIRT) for $6.60 per share in cash, for a total equity value of approximately $330 million. OpenText will commence a tender offer for all of the shares of common stock of Actuate within 7 business days.
The deal is expected to close in Q3 of OpenText's fiscal 2015.
Actuate shares closed Friday at $6.55, a gain of 87%.
Chatter of Potential Pfizer Bid for Bristol Myers SquibbThe Rumor:
Shares of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (BMY) rose in early trading Friday, on unconfirmed market chatter of a potential bid from Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:
PFE). Pfizer could offer up to $72.00 per share for the New York-based biopharmaceutical company.
Spokespersons for Bristol Myers Squibb and Pfizer declined comment on the rumor.
Bristol Myers Squibb closed Friday at $60.65, a gain of 3%.
