Apple Inc.AAPL
is selling more versions of the costlier iPhone 7 Plus than the base iPhone 7, and
9 To 5 Mac
has a theory why this is so.

The popular all-things-Apple blog cited a Slice analysis that examined 32,000 pre-order receipt emails. Of those, 55 percent of purchases were for the Plus model and 45 percent the regular. By comparison, only 35 percent of prior orders for the iPhone 6 were for the Plus and just 41 percent for the 6s Plus.

9 to 5 Mac further suggested that the strong pre-order data for the iPhone 7 Plus is due to the dual camera.

The iPhone 7 Plus includes two 12MP cameras on the back of the device, one of which is a wide-angle lens and the other is a telephoto. The flash also consists of a new quad-LED True Tone design.

Why Investors Should Care

Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities Research shared a similar sentiment on why the iPhone 7 Plus is outselling the base model. The analyst suggested photos and videos are "central to our digital lives." Chowdhry also stated that the higher price tag on the iPhone 7 Plus is a positive for Apple, naturally because it could lead to higher profit margins.

Moreover, an ultra-popular iPhone 7 could lead to an acceleration in sales of the Apple Watch 2, which Chowdhry said would prove to be an "extension" to the iPhone 7.
