Following the market opening Friday, the Dow traded up 0.55 percent to 15,070.27 while the NASDAQ surged 0.48 percent to 3,460.13. The S&P also rose, gaining 0.51 percent to 1,623.58.

On Wednesday, TransDigm Group (NYSE: TDG) reported that its board declared a special dividend of $22 per share.

Equities Trading UP

SeaDrill (NYSE: SDRL) shot up 1.17 percent to $40.78 after BofA Merrill Lynch upgraded the stock.

Shares of Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA) got a boost, shooting up 2.08 percent to $117.64 on reports of strong sales in Hong Kong.

TransDigm Group (NYSE: TDG) was also up, gaining 2.03 percent to $156.82 after the company declared a special dividend of $22 per share.

Equities Trading DOWN

Shares of Sarepta Therapeutics (NASDAQ: SRPT) were down 1.52 percent to $39.01 after the company announced at-the-market equity offering facility.

Lululemon Athletica (NASDAQ: LULU) was down, falling 1.55 percent to $63.50 after the company filed mixed securities shelf.

Telecom Italia S.p.A. (NYSE: TI) shares tumbled 1.78 percent to $6.5810 after Equita downgraded the stock from “buy” to “hold.”

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 0.66 percent to $101.91, while gold traded down 2.50 percent to $1,220.60.

Silver traded down 3.96 percent Friday to $18.92, while copper fell 3.40 percent to $3.07.

Eurozone

European shares were mostly lower today. The Spanish Ibex Index fell 1.23 percent and the Italian FTSE MIB Index dropped 0.96 percent. Meanwhile, the German DAX tumbled 1.44 percent and the French CAC 40 fell 0.28 percent while U.K. shares gained 0.12 percent.

Economics

The US economy added 195,000 new jobs in June, versus economists’ estimates of a 165,000 gain. The unemployment rate held steady at 7.6% in June.
