According to a report from Business Insider, a source close to Microsoft claims that the company is interested and actively discussing an acquisition of struggling Internet company Yahoo. "Definitely, people are talking about it," said the source.
This source – who asked to remain anonymous because getting fired sucks – says Yahoo is more attractive to Microsoft than AOL.
"People generally expect AOL to come apart one way or another. I don't think that's an interesting asset. It's just been so beaten down."
"Yahoo is a lot more interesting. If it comes into play, then at least their U.S. media business is a pretty interesting asset. It's complicated because of those Asian assets."
This isn't the first time that we've heard Microsoft is interested in acquiring Yahoo. There have been several rumors over the past few years of the same topic, but Yahoo has apparently not been interested.
Earlier this month, Yahoo fired its CEO, Carol Bartz. In a later interview, Bartz said that she believes the "board of directors f***ed [her] over." Less than 24 hours after Bartz was fired from her postion at Yahoo, it was reported that the company put itself up for sale.
