Google begins rolling out redesigned Android Market

Google just announced via its Android Developers Blog that it has begun rolling out a redesigned Android Market for devices running Android OS 2.2 or higher. The new Market is designed to "better showcase top apps and games, engage users with an improved UI, and provide a quicker path to downloading or purchasing your products."

There is a new promotional page on the home screen of the Market that highlights top content currently available for download.

To make it fun and easy for users to explore fresh content, we've added our app lists right to the Apps and Games home pages. Users can now quickly flip through these lists by swiping right or left, checking out what other people are downloading in the Top Paid, Top Free, Top Grossing, Top New Paid, Top New Free, and Trending lists. To keep the lists fresh and relevant, we've made them country-specific for many of the top countries.

In addition, Google has modified the single app page to display the app's name, price, and other information in a compact bar at the top. Directly under that bar are screenshots of the app in action.

From our first look at the redesigned Market, it does seem like it's more colorful. There's a lot less green, but Google has been able to keep everything elegant.

The redesigned Android Market should be hitting all Android devices running OS 2.2 or better in the coming weeks.
